This work takes an art theoretic approach to Jeff Wall’s influential photographic practice. Referencing the “Vancouver School” serves as a marker of my family’s new geographic location and provides a backdrop for my current practice as I navigate the local art history.
The piece explores the disconnect between our environment and our behavior. As newcomers, regardless of where we settle or how much our physical living conditions improve, many habits from the past persist. These ways of being remain deeply ingrained, continuing to dictate our actions even when there is no longer a logical reason for them to exist.
