Borrowing its title from the My Little Airport album, this work explores the friction between a romanticized “elsewhere” and the reality of where we land. While the band’s lyrics suggest that French romanticism is an unreachable fiction within the density of Hong Kong, my own journey reversed this trajectory: chasing a dream in France, only to find myself settling in Vancouver.
It is a metaphor for the paradox and circularity of life—an investigation into the constant negotiation of who we are versus where we are. As the inaugural piece in the A Place Called Home series, this work confronts the fundamental question of the Chinese diaspora: Where is my true home? In a culture where “home” is a sacred, foundational value, this piece examines the shifting ground of belonging in an age of global movement.
